Plan Bay Area 2060 is a major update to the region’s long-range plan, Plan Bay Area 2050+, adopted in March 2026. Plan Bay Area charts a course for the next 30 years of public investments and policy decisions. It focuses on the interrelated planning for transportation, housing, land use and the environment across the nine-county region.

Each new iteration of Plan Bay Area does a lot; it updates growth forecasts and prioritizes areas to accommodate future population and job growth; it identifies viable paths to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the impacts of climate change; it strategizes how to fund the operations, maintenance and improvements of our transportation network; and it thinks through how to update and make progress across the region on a shared vision for the future.

MTC-ABAG will develop Plan Bay Area 2060 around some of the region’s most pressing topics, such as housing affordability, transportation safety, automation and AI, and sea level rise.
